Stridsvagn m/21-29

m21-29.jpg

The LK-II was designed as Germany's response to the English 'Whippet' tank of WWI. Designed just before WW1 ended, only test models were assembled. In the greatest secrecy, they were imported in parts as steam plates and tractor details. After the reconstruction of the vehicles, trials were held at Svea and Göta Livgarde. The tanks had the designation Stridsvagn fm/22, shortly thereafter being known as Stridsvagn m/21. First in 1928, organized trials were held with Göta Livgarde Tank Battalion. Sweden bought 10 tanks in Autumn of 1921. The Strv m/21-29 was a modernised version of the normal m/21. The exterior differences are clearly visable with a new style engine muffler and the hood over the radiator. The interior differences are a new motor, a Swedish Scania Vabis 1554 with 85hp that gave the vehicle 2 km/h more speed. The renovations did start in the begining of the thirties (but the name suggests 1929. Perhaps that is when blueprints were drawn or the idea began).

Bash Armored Car

Arg-Bash-1.jpg

According to historian Dr. Georg V. Rauch, "In the early 1930s, the Federal Police of Buenos Aires ordered three armored vehicles from the Adolfo Bash firm, a local firm which had been building safes and armored vaults for banks and official institutions since 1882. Two of these were mounted aboard International B-series medium truck chassis and featured a rotary turret armed with a pair of Thompson submachine guns, which revolved over ball bearings. The third vehicle constructed over International A-series light truck reassembled a roadster of the period; but was fully armored and fitted with a two-way radio. The introduction of the larger Bash armored cars in 1933 led several foreign observers (including the US. Military Attaché) to conclude that the Army had transferred its Crossley model 1926 armored cars to the Federal Police; but this simply was not the case." The firm kept building armored cars for banks well into the late 1970s, many of them are still in use; but did not build any more armored vehicles for the Federal Police of the military.

Saurer RR-7

rr7.jpg

From 1936, the RR7 was developed by Saurer as an artillery tractor for the Austrian army. Testing was completed and in 1937, an order was placed for the tractors which were manufactured in 1938. About 12 vehicles were made prior to "Anschluss". After Austria was incorporated into Germany in 1938, the vehicle continued to be manufactured. Records indicate that a total of 140 units were built. The new designator for Germany was Sd Kfz 254. Notable features of this tank were it's wheel-cum-track layout and a diesel motor. The picture on the right is of this unit being used by the German Afrika Korps.

Gepanzerte Zugkraftwagen 8t (Sd Kfz 7)

Bul-sdkfz7.jpg

30 units were supplied to Bulgaria. The half track was designed to haul the 88mm Anti-Aircraft gun which was also used at times as an Anti-Tank weapon. The Bulgarians obtained more of these units from the the 7th SS "Prinz Eugen" division after it switched to the Soviet side.

Jap-Fordson-IonFonosch.jpg

? Japanese Tank

No data is available on this odd shaped tracked vehicle except that it was possibly designed for mine clearing. Note the Fordson Tractor track conversion. The Fordson tracked tractor was used by the Japanese as a Prime Mover for artillery. If you have any extra information, please email me.

The Dutch Daf M39 Also known as the Dutch Van Doorne and Pz Sp Wg DAF 210 (h)

Hol-M39prototype3.jpg

This is the Dutch Daf M 39. 12 copies were made by the time of the German invasion. It was quite advanced for its time. During the 5 day campaign of May 1940, seven cars (out of 12) were delivered to the Cavalry Depot Squadron. Of those, 1 did take part in the fighting. Registration number III-2203 fought at Overschie on the 14th of May 1940. The vehicles were taken over by the Germans and used for Police duties. They were destroyed somewhere on the eastern front as the picture in the upper right shows. What happened with the remaining five vehicles is unknown but it is possible they were finished for the Germans at a later date.

Russians inspect captured Nazi tank gun -- Red Army soldiers are here shown giving the once-over to this Nazi 88-mm. anti-tank gun, mounted on tank treads, which was captured somewhere on the Russian front. It is probably this some type of anti-tank gun which General Rommel has used to great advantage in the recent Libyan desert fighting that has forced the British back upon Tobruk

tank-for-paintball.jpg

Qui non so se ridere o piangere: The Paintball Panzer is a tank designed for use in paintball matches. It has a 24-inch gun, and can shoot 15 balls a second. They cost a staggering $18,000 apiece.

http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paintball

"150mm sIG 33 L/11.4 heavy infantry gun (mortar) carrier was built on the unmodified chassis of PzKpfw I Ausf B. The vehicle was operated by the crew of five and only three rounds of high-explosive ammunition were carried. Only 3 crewmen rode in the vehicle, while the other two along with more ammunition rode in a halftrack. Crew was protected only by a large box-shaped gun shield (made up of three 10mm plates), open at the top and rear. Only 38 were converted in January/February of 1940 by Alkett in Berlin. The gun and superstructure overloaded the chassis leading to poor mobility. The idea behind this vehicle was to provide infantry with direct and mobile fire support unit. Sturmpanzer I saw service in the West, Balkans and Russia with 701-706 sIG(Sf) Kompanien - Heavy Infantry Gun Companies (each had 6 vehicles), originally attached to Panzer Divisions and then Panzer Corps. Last of them were taken out from service (with 704 Company of 5th Panzer Division) in late 1943. It was the first of many self-propelled support vehicles produced during the war."
