Gli unici carri sviluppati in loco dalla Spagna franchista furono quelli della serie Verdeja, derivati, o comunque ispirati, dal Panzer I Tedesco, quindi carri leggeri (intorno alle 10 tonnellate) e non particolarmente innovativi.

Quanto al piaggio rombo pare nessuno ne sappia niente.

Shown from left to right are the M1940, M1941, M1942, and the M1942A. Most Christie pictures are heavily airbrushed and should be viewed with suspicion. Some were never even made as in the M1940. The M1940 never even came off the drawing board. final submissions by J. Walter Christie. The M1942A picture is by Col. Robert Icks, a famous developer of United States armor. Since the picture comes from him, it appears that this tank was actually built. Note that it does not have the multiple machine guns as in the M1942 touched up picture. To further confuse everyone, the Christie "M" series date is not always acurate. Christie determined that his designs were so futuristic that he would "guess" at a future date when he thought that the rest of the industry would catch up with him.

The Holt 150 Ton Field Monitor, 3 Wheeled Steam Tank

 

 

Almost no data survives on this strange vehicle built by Holt sometime between 1916 and 1917. It is known that it really existed, and it moved about 50 feet before becoming stuck at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Twin two piston steam engines provided power (one engine devoted to each large wheel). Records do not indicate which end was the front. At 150 tons, this would have been the largest, and heaviest vehicle built in that era. Most likely TANKS! considers this to be a error in the archives and most likely the tank weighed 15 tons or the 150 ton moniker was an effort to hide the design from would-be spies.

Another source states that the vehicle was built by Holt and was called the "Three Wheeled Steam Tank". It was the 3rd tank to be designed in the United States and was completed in 1918. The hull was carried at the front by two 8' diameter tractor wheels and the rear of the vehicle was supported by a triple disc steering roller to which was attached a small steel plate for trench crossing. Each front drive wheel had it's own power unit which consisted of a Doble 2 cylinder 75hp engine and kerosene fired boiler. Main armament was a 2.95" mountain howitzer mounted low in the front. a .50cal Browning HMG was carred in a ball mount on the hull sides. The stated weight was a more believeable 17tons.

The V3

 

The Danes too had their "V" weapon and wanted vengence! With WW2 approaching the end, Danish underground forces obtained a scraped Ford 2 ton truck and improvised it into an armored car. Finally ready on 5 May 1945, it was composed of steel plates and a steel drum for a turret. The V3 was never used against the occupying German forces as they had surrendered before the V3 was completed, but it was used on one occasion against Danish collaborators in Frederiksvaerk. The vehicle still exists today as a war monument.

Frank Andersen writes:

"The V3 is exhibited at "Frihedsmuseet" (Museum of liberty) in Copenhagen. It has been hit by quite a number of rifle and submachinegun-bullets, as it was used against a werewolf-pack. Groups of Danish Nazis called themselves werewolfs, and wanted to make their own resistance movement against the allies. The same happened in the rest of the liberated Europe, as quite a lot local people had cooperated with the German Veermacht. And they would often have suffered death penalty anyway, so they fought on. The name "V3" came from the German V1 and V2 rockets, which again took their "V" from Churchill's V-sign. The "V for Victory", was quickly taken over by the resistance movements around Europe as their sign. Goebbels, the German minister of propaganda took the sign and made it his own, a sort of counter-propaganda against all the people, that sympathized with the allies. But as the German word for victory has no V in the beginning, it had to mean "vergeltung" or vengeance. The Danish words for vengeance and the word for victory hasn't got a V, so it was just to use Churchill V and to throw the German V back on the Nazis, that they used the V3. We had the last word."

Pavesi Armored Car(s)

 

 

 

Two prototypes were built, one of a vehicle armed with a Hotchkiss machinegun with 1000 rounds, the other armed with a 75mm Schneider gun with 30 rounds. Both vehicles appear to have been based on the Pavesi M26 or M30 artillery tractor. The design was unique; the frame consisted of two separate sections that were articulated, all four wheels were powered, and all four steered. The wheels themselves were large diameter (1300 mm), and had grousers that normally were folded inward on the wheels, but could be folded outward to provide extra traction when necessary. Armor thickness varied from 4mm to 16mm. The motor was a Pavesi P 4, four cylinder, 7000 cc, water-cooled that developed 48 horsepower at 1250 rpm.

Cingoletta 2800

 

 

The Fiat Cingoletta 2800 was a obivious copy of the British Universal Carrier with an extra bogie wheel on each side. In many ways it bore and even closer physical resemblance to the US T-16 Ford Universal Carrier. The weight was 4.76 tons and it mounted a 8mm MG. With a one ton load it could reach 60kmh.

Ansaldo Armored Car

 

 

The 1925 Ansaldo armored car was produced in prototype version only, and was based on a Pavesi heavy tractor. It was armed with a 45mm cannon. Length 4600 mm, width 2600 mm, height 2900 mm, wheels 1500 mm diameter, weight 8250 kg, max speed 40 kmh, crew 3, motor Fiat model 634, 6 cylinder, 8310 cc, 75 HP.

Disston Tractor Tank

 

Developed in 1933 by the Disston Safe Company. Built on a Caterpiller tractor model 35 or 40. In 1934 an improved model was made mounting a 37mm main gun in an open top. 26 tanks were produced in the USA, 16 going to the USMC and the remainders going to Afghanistan

An experimental type. After satisfying trials two of these cars were shipped to the East Indies in 1934. Results there were less satisfactory, the vehicles being too heavy for the roads and the air-cooled engines suffering from overheating, forcing the use of airplane gas rather than the normal gasoline. The 2 cars thus were sold back to the firm and returned to the Netherlands.

The A.S. 37 was a light desert truck and used as a basis for a armored personnel carrier. The 4 wheel drive was designed especially for desert operations. The unit could carry ten soldiers plus a driver at a top speed of 50kmh. It had an 8mm MG for armament.

Semovente L.3 da 47/32

 

This early (1939) attempt at realizing a tracked self propelled gun resulted in a ungainly vehicle mounting the 47/32 anti-tank gun on a modified L.3/35 chassis. The only armor protection for the crew was the gun shield. It is unclear if only one or two prototypes were built. Fiat provided the mechanical components and Breda provided the gun.
