Hallbergmoos - Following the delivery of ST008, EADS CASA has successfully completed all handovers of Tranche 1 Eurofighter Typhoons to the Spanish Air Force. The aircraft, also the first Block 5 standard twin-seat to be delivered to one of the four Partner Air Forces, is the 18th Eurofighter Typhoon to be delivered to Ala 11 at Morón Air Base, and becomes the 127th weapons system (including five Instrumented Production Aircraft) to be delivered to the Partner Nations. IPA4, operated by EADS CASA, in Getafe was the first Spanish Tranche 1 aircraft.

Italy plans to reduce its order for Eurofighters

 

MILAN (Thomson Financial) - The Italian defence minister said the government is likely to reduce its order for the third tranche of Eurofighters due to the increased costs, following reports published by German business daily Handelsblatt.

 

According to the paper, Italy and the UK, which ordered the Eurofighers for delivery from 2012, are hesitating over the purchase of certain aircraft.

 

The ministry said in a statement that the funds allocated by Italy for the purchase have not changed, whereas the price of the individual Eurofighters has risen, and therefore the number of aircraft ordered will probably be reduced.

Italy sees cut in Eurofighter order

 

Italy will "probably" cut its order of 121 Eurofighter jets because the planes have become more expensive, the defence ministry said Monday.

 

The likely reduction will affect the 46 Eurofighters Italy had promised to buy after 2012 in a so-called third tranche of deliveries, a spokesman said.

 

The country has already taken more than a dozen of the multi-role combat jets, which are replacing its ageing fleet of US-made F-16s.

 

The Eurofighter, which has a range of 2,500 kilometres (1,560 miles) and can be equipped with a mix of missiles depending on its mission, is built by a European consortium made up of Germany, Britain, Italy and Spain.

 

The defence ministry spokesman, who was responding to a report in Germany's Handelsblatt newspaper, said the higher price -- estimated at nearly 100 million euros (137 million dollars) each for the current version -- weighed on the decision.

 

"It's a question of money. Italy has put up funds for a certain number of Eurofighters. These funds are still the same, whereas the cost of the Eurofighters has risen. It's probable therefore that the number of aircraft ordered will be reduced," he said.

 

He added that the issue would be re-examined by the consortium.

 

"I think the issue is the same for Britain. However, the positions of Germany and Spain are not the same because I think they have a different financing set-up," he said.

 

The spokesman, who represented the defence ministry's national armaments directorate, said: "It is not forecast as things stand that Italy will increase the funds earmarked for acquiring Eurofighters."

 

Italian company Alenia Aerospaziale, which has a 20-percent stake in Eurofighter, said "it is premature to talk about prices" since negotiations on the third tranche have not yet begun.

 

In deciding the price, much would depend on what type of equipment would go into the jets, the company said.

 

Germany, Spain, Italy and Britain have ordered some 620 Eurofighters.

 

The Handelsblatt report observed that Britain and Italy were under pressure to reduce their Eurofighter orders because they were also to take delivery of Joint Strike Fighters, a US-made rival to the Eurofighter that costs roughly the same.

Che vuol dire? AMI ha già un budget a disposizione che aveva preparato ....anta anni fa, solo che ....anta anni fa con quel budget ci si compravano 121 EF, mentre oggi con lo stesso budget se ne comprano solo 100?

 

Tanto per farmi rosicare, il ministro della difesa spagnolo Bono ha detto che probabilmente la Spagna eserciterà le opzioni per l'acquisto di 16 EFA supplementari portando il numero di Tifoni a 103. Insomma lo stesso numero, se non di + dell'AMI.....
