MSA (Maritime Surveillance Aircraft) .... la mossa di Boeing per andare incontro a chi non può permettersi il P-8A ....

 

The MSA is designed for search-and-rescue, anti-piracy, coastal and border security missions.

“Not everyone is going to need a full P-8 capability,” Jim Armington, Boeing vice president for East Asia and Pacific international business development, said during the Singapore Airshow in February.

“The MSA will bring about 80 percent of the capability at a much lower price.”

Io credo che a breve la Raf piazzerà il primo ordine, considerando che molti dei suoi piloti e specialisti si addestrano da tempo sui primi Poseidon della Navy

 

Vero il fatto che personale della RAF si stia addestrando sui P-8A americani .... che poi l'aereo venga in seguito ordinato dal Regno Unito è ancora da vedere ....

Nine new Boeing P8 maritime patrol aircraft for maritime surveillance, anti-submarine and anti-surface ship warfare will increase further the protection of our nuclear deterrent and our new aircraft carriers.

These roles require an aircraft that can carry torpedoes, as well as being fitted with a broad range of sensors, including radar and sonobuoys, which are operated from the rear of the cabin by a team of specialists.

These aircraft will also provide maritime search and rescue and surveillance capabilities over land.

Lockheed Martin says the lack of open competition for the UK’s newly-selected maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) is disappointing, but says there are other opportunities worldwide for its Vigilance mission system on a variety of aircraft types.

The company was offering to convert the Royal Air Force’s 10 short-fuselage C-130J Hercules transports into an SC-130J configuration, incorporating a mission system and a variety of sensors for the MPA role.

A new torpedo upgrade that will fundamentally change the way US Navy airmen hunt submarines is on track to seek approval to begin low-rate initial production later this year, Boeing and Navy officials say on 28 March.

The Lockheed Martin High Altitude Anti-submarine warfare Weapon Capability (HAAWC) is in the midst of safe separation tests from the Boeing P-8A Poseidon.

A guided flight test is planned in late Fiscal 2017, allowing the programme potentially to order 140 high-altitude torpedoes total over the first two lots.

Following operational testing scheduled for completion by FY 2020, HAAWC also will be available to the P-8 fleet’s foreign customers, which currently include Australia, India and the UK, says Capt Tony Rossi, programme manager for Maritime Patrol and Reconnsassance Aircraft.

Boeing has secured a $2.2 billion contract covering 17 P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft destined for the US Navy, the Royal Australian Air Force, and the Royal Air Force.

The deal includes options for 32 additional aircraft, and money for long-lead parts for future orders, says Boeing.

Overall, the entire contract could be worth $6.8 billion if all options are exercised.

The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to New Zealand for P-8A aircraft and associated support.

The estimated cost is $1.46 billion.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on April 27, 2017.

New Zealand has requested the potential sale of up to four (4) P-8A Patrol Aircraft.

The Boeing Co., Seattle, Washington, is being awarded a $282,275,771 modification to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract (N00019-14-C-0067) for procurement of long lead parts associated with the manufacture of 19 Lot 10 P-8A aircraft for the U.S. Navy (10) and the governments of Norway (5) and the United Kingdom (4).

Work will be performed in Seattle, Washington (82.5 percent); Baltimore, Maryland (2.7 percent); Greenlawn, New York (2.4 percent); Cambridge, United Kingdom (1.6 percent); North Amityville, New York (.9 percent); Rockville, Illinois (.7 percent); Rancho Santa Margarita, California (.6 percent); Dickinson, North Dakota (.6 percent), and various locations throughout the United States (8 percent), and is expected to be completed in March 2022.

Fiscal 2018 aircraft procurement (Navy) and foreign military sales funds in the amount of $282,275,771 will be obligated at time of award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

This modification combines purchases for the U.S. Navy ($140,333,000; 49.7 percent); the governments of Norway ($81,110,155; 28.7 percent) and the United Kingdom ($60,832,616; 21.6 percent) under the Foreign Military Sales program.

The Royal Australian Air Force's Boeing P-8A Poseidon fleet has achieved Initial Operational Capability (IOC).

The IOC for the 737-based maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft came five months ahead of schedule, says defence minister Marise Payne.

The RAAF has taken delivery of six P-8As from an overall order book of 12.

The type is operated by the No. 11 sqn. from RAAF Edinburgh.

The Republic of Korea (ROK) will acquire Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, the country’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced on June 25. 
The aircraft will be procured via the U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) procedure. 
DAPA said that the P-8A was selected after a “comprehensive review of legal aspects, cost, schedule, and performance.” 
However, there was no open evaluation of alternative MPAs such as the Saab Swordfish or the Airbus C295 ASW.
